Mayetta L. (Carr) LeVasseur, 93, of Fall River, formerly of Augusta, ME, widow of Joseph J.B. LeVasseur, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019. She was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church and was a graduate of Cony High School, Class of 1944. She traveled around the country with her husband and children until his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1964, settling in Fall River, where she founded and managed the first soup kitchen in the city with her husband.

They also founded the city’s first farmer’s market. She volunteered at First Baptist Church, Toys For Tots, and Little Theater of Fall River. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She leaves four children, Gloria Allen, Jean Mendes, Elaine Leite (husband Scott) and Terrence J. LeVasseur (companion Barbara Hecox); Grandchildren, Noel F. LeVasseur, Christopher M. Mendes, Melisa L. Tavares, Gregory E. Pierce, Heather A. Chace and Matthew Jones; two sisters, Marguerite Andrews and Bethyl House; 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Debbie LeVasseaur, the sister of the late Roger, Rinaldo, Sherwood, and Roderic Carr and Elaine MacKinnon, and the daughter of the late Rinaldo E. and Marion B. (Jordan) Carr. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 16 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S.Main St. Fall River.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to Clifton Nursing Home (Resident Activities Fund) , 500 Wilbur Ave. Somerset, MA 02725.
