Mrs. Melva Sue Pope Brigman, 74 of Kinston, NC left this earthly life to meet her Lord July 27, 2018 at UNC Lenoir/ HealthCare. Sue lived her earthly life in Clinton, NC. She graduated from Midway High School and Hank Hanna School of Cosmetology in Dunn, NC.

Sue lived a fulfilling and busy life. After graduation, she made her home in Kinston where she worked as a beautician for many years before leaving to assist in the operation of New Hope Church Daycare for 18 years. She moved onto the Lenoir County School System as a “Lunch Lady”, a role she enjoyed until retirement.

Later she became a caretaker for others who needed assistance with everyday life. This brought her much joy and fulfillment. Sue was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she filled many positions over the years but her greatest joy came as a member of the church choir and participating in all the special programs they performed.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Julia Mae Pope of Clinton and sister, Blanche Annelle Mercer of Kinston. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth “Dot Dash” Brigman of the home. Daughter, Dawn Brigman Hayes, son, Jonathan Brigman, grandson, “the light of her life” Dale Paschall Hayes all of Bayboro, brother, Graham Glenn Pope, sister Gail Pope Smith and husband Ray all of Clinton, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

If you have ever visited her home, you know that she had a love of all things that had a squirrel on it. You could even say she was a “nut” for them. But above all else, she loved her Duke Blue Devils.

There was no need to call or go visit if her beloved Blue Devils were playing. The world stopped when Duke had a game. Sue was a wonderful, friendly, helpful, stubborn, strong-willed, witty woman with a dry sense of humor that could bring you to tears from laughing at her antics.

She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Garner Funeral Home Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Her life will be celebrated Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00am at Garner Funeral Home with graveside to follow at Westview Cemetery.
