Melvin “Mel” Paul Blocker April 27, 1944 – May 28, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Melvin Paul “Mel” Blocker, 75, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Unity Point Health-Marshalltown. He was a loving husband and father to four children. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Dewey Grimes officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home. Melvin was born on April 27, 1944, in Clutier, Iowa, the son of Melvin V. and Tena (Balvin) Blocker. He graduated from Tama High School in 1962.

Melvin was united in marriage to Deborah Atchison in 1968. Mel worked a variety of jobs before working at Fisher Controls for thirty-five years, retiring in 1999. He had a passion for playing golf.

Mel was an avid music lover and loved playing his guitar. He was also an avid Hawkeye football fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Mel was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Deborah of Tama; four children, Wendy (Kevin) Hintermeister of Toledo, Stacie (Eric) Hauser of Tama, Tricia Smith of West Des Moines, and Ryan (Charlotte) Blocker of Toledo; eight grandchildren, Kylei Hintermeister, Tim Hauser, Jeff Hauser, Kourtne (Keaton) Klocko, Clayton (Megan) Blocker, Kolton Smith, Wyatt Hintermeister, and Conner Blocker; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Blocker; his mother-in-law, LaRue Atchison; his siblings, Gordon Blocker, Patsy Seymour, Jeanette (Wes) Jenson, Jim (Audrey) Blocker, Deloris Baughman, David (Nancy) Blocker, Keith (Rita) Blocker, Kenneth (Bev) Blocker, Larry (Bev) Blocker, LeRoy (Connie) Blocker, William (Chris) Blocker, Eugene (Mary) Blocker, and Darrell Blocker; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his father-in-law, Robert Atchison; brothers-in-law, Tim Atchison, Frank Seymour, and Gary Baughman; sisters-in-law, Shirley Blocker, and Siretta Blocker.
