Obituary for Melvin “Sandy” Slayton CHATHAM, Melvin F, “Sandy” Slayton, age 71, of Chatham, was called to his heavenly home on February 13, 2019. He was born on September 25, 1947, in Danville, the son of the late Melvin Slayton and the late Ruth Raley Slayton. He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

He was a military veteran. He and his father both worked at National Automatic Sprinkler Co. for many years. He loved baseball and football, his teams were the Baltimore Orioles and the Philadelphia Eagles.

He is survived by his two daughters, Alexandria M. Slayton and Katherine M. Slayton, both of Richmond. Memorial Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Virginia Historical Society, virginiahistory.org.
