OBITUARY Mercedes Lugo Martinez October 6, 1929 – September 14, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Mercedes Lugo Martinez, loving wife, mother of six children passed away peacefully on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Her spirit was received by our Holy Father as she was surrounded by family. Mercedes was born on October 6, 1929 in Pasadena, Texas, but was raised in Mexico.

Her father was Martin Lugo and her mother was Rosa Guerra Lugo. She married Rafael T. Martinez on December 29, 1959. Mercedes, Rafael, and family resided in Redwood City, California and then moved to McAllen, Texas which remained their primary place of residence.

They had six children: Rafael Martinez Jr.; Leticia Martinez married to Ed Frye with two children, Cecilia and Megan married to Justin Levan; Carolina Martinez married to Daniel Palacios with three children, Gabriel, Catalina Mercedes and Corina; Margarita (Maggie) Martinez married to Mike Barrera with two children, Miranda and Marcos; Eduardo with four children, David, Ivette (with one child, Matthew) Angelica ( with two children Delilah and Daniel) and Joanna; and youngest son, David Martinez married to Sandy with two children, Eli and Kailey; three great-grandchildren Delilah, Daniel and Matthew. Mercedes was preceded in death by her father Martin, mother Rosa and husband Rafael. Mercedes was the oldest of fourteen children.

Only four of her siblings, Herminia, Virginia, Julian and Bernardo are living. Mercedes will always be remembered by her beautiful smile and her dedication to her children. Mom was a wonderful seamstress, great cook, avid gardener and throughout her life often extended her open arms to house and take care of family and friends needing shelter or advice on life’s issues.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Food and Fellowship will be from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM with Services beginning at 1:00 PM officiated by Pastor Ramon Cadena. Entombment Services will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park Mausoleum.
