OBITUARY Virginia Raffaela Gerick April 6, 1919 – September 11, 2018 Virginia was born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 6, 1919 to Charles Macri and Philomena DeCerbo Macri. Graduated from Albertus Magnum College and attended Library Science School at Columbia. Virginia was an avid reader, especially mysteries.

Was a coupon collector and never passed up a crossword puzzle. Her career as a civilian librarian in United States Air Force took her to several European stations including San Vito de Normandy Air Station (Brindisi), Italy. There, she met an Air Force Captain James Gerick.

They were married in the base chapel. Virginia took on another career, that of an AF wife. After several U.S. bases, and the addition of son, James Ray, the family retied to Austin, Texas.

Virginia joined the Sacred Heart Church and became librarian of the Sacred Heart School. She was much into genealogy. She was a charter member of the Travis-Williamson Counties Czech Heritage Society and member of the Italian PIP 10 Chapter.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles M., and a brother-in-law Edwin Gerick. She is survived by her husband, James A. and her son, James R., also a granddaughter Britany Weaver (Bobby), two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Annette Maloy (Hugh) of Oviedo, FL, Pat Gerick of Georgetown, Texas, and Mary Lou Ludwig (Al) of New Braunfels, TX; brother-in-law, Milam Gerick (Mary Ann) of Portland, TX and she is also survived by other family and friends. Family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Hospitality Home and Hospice Austin for the excellent care they provided.

Also, a special thanks to Harry and Lynn Shank of Texas Assurance Care for the assistance they provided in time of need. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752. The Rosary will recite at 7:00pm.

A funeral mass for Virginia will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5909 Reicher Drive, Austin, Texas 78723. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggest donations be made to the Books for Kids, 440 Park Ave South, New York, NY 10016, www. booksforkids.org/ , 212-760-2665.
