OBITUARY Mercedith L. Greenwood May 11, 1931 – November 21, 2018 Mecedith Greenwood, age 87, of San Angelo passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 21, 2018. She was born the daughter of Charles Harper Smedley and Eula Deaton Smedley on April 11, 1931 in Poteau, Oklahoma. Mecerdith was a devoted wife to Vernon Greenwood until his death in 2003 and remained so until the day of her passing.

They met and married in Midland, Texas in 1954 when she was a telephone operator and he was employed with Santa Fe Railway. They later moved to Big Lake and soon after to San Angelo where they raised a family together with three children. She was not only a dedicated wife, but a sister, mother, and grandmother by always being there for them when called on to do so.

She had four brothers, Ray, Jack, Carl and Roy and three sisters, Maudine, Charlene and Edith, all which have preceded her in glory. She was a mother survived by Richard Greenwood, Robbie Russell and husband Randall, and Jeffrey Greenwood and a grandmother to six grandchildren, Christopher Michael Greenwood, Jennifer Greenwood Martinez, Ryan Dale Miller, Devon Renee Miller, Jeffrey Matthew Greenwood and Zachery Michael Greenwood. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Joshua Rhys Martinez and Lilianna Marie Martinez.

Mercedith loved music, architecture, history and travel. Her favorite guilty pleasure was watching old westerns. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and for as long as she breathed she would cheer them on.

She had a funny sense of humor and would always say…”you can laugh or cry about it”. . she taught her family to laugh.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 on Sunday evening at Johnson’s Funeral Home and graveside funeral services to be held at 2:00 PM on Monday at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
