Merolin Oliver “Jiggs” Lawrence 85, of Spring Bank Road went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, September 1, 2018 at home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with the family receiving friends following the service. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Walker Family Cemetery on Spring Bank Road with military honors.

Mr. Lawrence was born October 19, 1932 to the late Martin and Vion Peterson Lawrence. He proudly served his country where he retired from the United States Coast Guard and later retired from K-Mart. Mr. Lawrence was a dedicated member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Ruritan Club of Goldsboro while his health permitted.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Walker Lawrence; one son, Ben Lawrence and wife, Sue of Goldsboro; two daughters, Melinda Thompson and husband, Lynn of Richmond, and Kim Mezza and husband, Darren of Fuquay-Varina; two brothers, George Lawrence and Amos Lawrence of Newport; one sister, Sally Conway of Beaufort; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Lawrence. Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
