Michael’s Obituary Michael (Mike) F. Galler passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was born July 31, 1957 in Gary, IN to the late Jack and Helen Galler and grew up in Hobart, IN. Mike worked many years for the City of Hobart, a job he truly loved.
After leaving there he worked for Strack and VanTil in Merrillville until retiring in February of 2018. Mike loved his family and friends and was an avid Bears, Cubs, and Nascar fan. Mike especially loved dogs.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Cherie) Galler and her children Matt (Becky) Chizmar of Austintown, OH, Amber Chizmar of Chicago, IL, and Tim (Melissa) Chizmar of Poland, OH, his siblings David (Marivi) Galler of Burgos, Spain, Carol Horan of West Lafayette, IN, Laurie (Dick) Broadland of Tulsa, OK, and Mary (John) Sanchez of Mesa, AZ, sisters-in-law Carol Kountz of Campbell, OH, Cathy Zarbaugh of Crown Point, IN and brother-in-law Dale Zarbaugh of Austintown, OH. Mike also leaves behind his nephews Dylan Broadland, Isaac Horan, David and Samuel Galler, and his niece Lacy Holland and grandchildren Olivia Galler, Alexis , Andrew, Aiden, Alex , and Hadley Chizmar and his new great grandson Landon Orosz, and many cousins whose love and support are cherished. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Helen Galler, both of his beloved sons Nicky and Brandon Galler and his loving Golden Retriever Pearl.
Mike is reuniting with them now to give us another angel in heaven. In lieu of flowers please direct any donations to the Humane Society of Hobart, Inc., 2054 IN-130, Hobart, IN 46342 where Mike’s beloved dog Bodee was rescued and placed in his arms four Christmas’s ago. Mike was loved by his family and many friends.
Below is a testament of that love by his granddaughter Alexis Chizmar written in her own words from her heart. We can all relate to this: God took you and made you his beautiful angel; you’re up in heaven with your two boys and with Michael. I’ll never forget all you did for me especially all you did for me in 2018.
You were such a great Papa and I’m so glad you got to meet Landon I promise I’ll make sure he knows who you are. Thanks for everything thank you for loving me thank you for all the stories you told me and all the places we use to go together. Thank you for being you.
I love you so many Papa please watch over me and be my guardian angel. Heaven now has two of the most kindest people I’ve ever known.
