Obituary for Michael Wirtz Michael T. Wirtz, age 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief illness, on June 15, 2018. He was born to Robert and Mary (Purtill) Wirtz on November 18, 1962. He is survived by his mother and father, Robert and Mary Wirtz; a brother and his wife, Robert and Cindy Wirtz and his two sisters and their husbands, Kathryn and David Rugen and Denise and Daniel Rooney; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Brian) Kribs, Aaron (Cari) Gillespie, Robert E. Wirtz, Meaghan Wirtz, Kaitlin (Jack) Steiner and Sara Rooney; his great-nephews, Elliott, Owen, Connor, Nolan and Leo; and his many cousins.

Michael was a proud south-sider and graduate of Marist High School. He was a passionate fan of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Blackhawks. Michael also loved classic rock music and its lyrics.

Visitation and Funeral Mass will both be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 10134 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago, IL 60643. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. Additional Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to Michael’s caregivers, doctors and especially his nurses.
