Mildred Ann Melby, 80, of Richland Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Schmitt Woodland Hills. She was born on the family farm outside of Bosstown to Roy and Marjorie (Turkelson) Epright on February 24, 1938. Mildred grew up helping her dad on the family farm, driving tractors, helping with chores, spending time with her younger sister, and enjoying the outdoors.

Mildred graduated from Richland Center High School and started her teaching career by attending the Teachers College in Richland Center, later continuing her studies at UW- Platteville. She taught in the Richland School District for 44 years, retiring in 2003.

Mildred married Grant Melby on May 24, 1975. Mildred and Grant had two children, Karen Ann in 1977 and Kevin Jon in 1979. Grant preceded her in death on June 1, 1981.

Mildred’s life focused on raising her children and her teaching career. She retired the year her first grandchild was born and her new focus became spending time with her growing family. Mildred also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, going to church activities, bird watching, traveling to see her grandchildren’s various activities, and caring for pets.

She was an active member of Grand View Family Worship Assembly of God. For several years Mildred organized church luncheons served by the ladies group. Mildred is survived by her two children Karen Ann (Michael) Fowell of La Farge, Kevin Jon (Laura) Melby of Richland Center; six grandchildren: Hunter (15), Hayden (13), Macie (9) Fowell, Andrew (8), Addison (6), Alexander (2) Melby; sister Donna (Norman) Neumaier of Lodi, two nieces Lori (Scott) Anderson, Becky (Dave) Zimmerman, two nephews Jeff (Cindy) Neumaier, Roy (Katie) Neumaier, other relatives and friends.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Grant. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in the Richland Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
