Mimi Lou Moody was born on September 19, 1929, the daughter of George and Ethel (Buckingham) James, and was a big sister to George and Bob.

She was baptized on December 12, 1929, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crawford where she was confirmed on August 17, 1947. She continued as a member her whole life. Mimi Lou James and Perry Albert Moody were united in marriage on November 28, 191948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, spending their honeymoon, during the blizzard of ’49 saving sheep on the Moody Ranch north of Crawford.

They later moved to the James Ranch where Moody fulfilled his role as “Cattle Rancher”. To this union five children were born: P.J., Richard, Debra, Shelley, and Holli. In 1963 the State of Nebraska bought the James Ranch that is now know as part of Fort Robinson State Park.

Perry and Mimi Lou moved to Florida to work with her father George to develop land on the Florida Keys. Having worked with Nebraska soil all his life, the Florida rock was not for him. Perry brought his family back to Nebraska after just one year and made their home in Crawford, NE.

they were partners in the Crawford Sale Barn until 1972 when they purchased the Ash Creek Ranch. They raised Black Angus cattle until Perry’s health dictated change. Mimi Lou moved them into Crawford where she cared for Perry for 12 years until his death.

Mom loved to line dance, sing, and played bridge for 50 years in the same club. She also loved her Church, serving for many years as the director for the Annual Christmas Pageant, LWML, and visiting at the nursing home and serving on the Ponderosa Nursing Home Board. She also loved traveling and visiting family.

Though Mimi sometimes forgot people’s names as she suffered with Alzheimer’s, she never changed from being the most loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Survivors include four children, P.J. (Cathy), Richard (Lois), Debra (Max), Holli (Rob); son-in-law Clint; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and brother Bob. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George, daughter Shelley, and her husband Perry.
