OBITUARY Mona Glenice McCash April 9, 1933 – September 18, 2018 On September 18, 2018, Mona McCash of Plano, Texas , went to be with her Lord at the age of 85 after having fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery 7301 East Lancaster, Ft Worth, TX 76112. Mona was born on April 9, 1933 in Ada, OK to Glenn and Crissie Stark.
Being the daughter of a band director, music was always a major part of her life. She began piano study at four years old and learned to read music before she read words. She gave annual solo piano recitals beginning at the age of eight and received many achievement awards in and out of music.
On a Junior High questionnaire, Mona said she wanted to be a professional accompanist when she grew up. Mona was the valedictorian and year book editor of her 1951 Chickasha (OK) High School class. Following graduation, she attended the University of Tulsa (OK) where she was named by faculty as Outstanding Freshman in the music school.
She transferred to Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree in 1954. She taught fifth grade and then general music to various elementary grades for several years. Mona went back to school and earned her Master of Music in Organ in 1970 from North Texas State University in Denton, TX.
Mona’s music career as a church organist, piano teacher, and accompanist spanned over seven decades, several states, and thousands of students of all ages. She was named Organist Emeritus at The Church at Litchfield Park in Litchfield, AZ where she served for 22 years. While in Arizona, Mona enjoyed going to the symphony, playing in bell choir, and attending Bible Study Fellowship with her longtime friend, Nan Raine.
Mona and Nan even went to American Guild of Organists national conventions together in Hawaii and Seattle. Mona married Hugh McCash in May 1971. Hugh taught her to play golf and this became one of their favorite things to do together.
The highlight of her golfing days was getting a hole in one. Mona’s specialty was putting. She always beat her family at miniature golf.
Mona and Hugh also enjoyed raising Brittany Spaniels who were treated more like family than dogs. After Hugh’s passing in 1996, Mona spent her summers in Texas to be close to her children and grandchildren. Mona loved ice cream and continued to show that preference to the end.
Mona is Survived by daughter Amy Foskett (Pete), son Cris Dutton, grandchildren Sara Ball (Josh) and Steven Foskett (fiancee’Libby) and great grandchildren Isolde Ball and Lorelei Ball.
