Obituary for Nadaline Davis Thomas BENBROOK – On September 12, 2018, Nadaline Davis Thomas peacefully passed away at home (and literally in the arms) of her loving daughter. At the time, Nadaline (91) was coping with and extended illness and was blessed with surrounding friends and family. The perky and out-spoken Mrs. Thomas was born and raised on her family’s small cattle ranch near Archer City, Texas.

She was born Aug. 2, 1927, to William Otis and Mary Cox Davis. Although truly a “cowgirl,” it was a type-casting she usually avoided.

And, though she could have been a character out of a Larry McMurty novel (which is not surprising since she grew up near the McMurty family), she was always faultlessly (but modestly) adorned. It enhanced her petite beauty, her sparkling blue eyes and her infectious smile. Upon graduating from Archer City High, Nadaline enrolled at Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth (financed by her own cattle herd), where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry (with which she was fascinated).

She received her B. S. degree in 1947. While at Texas Wesleyan, Nadaline also met the love of her life, a returning war hero, Wallace Thomas. The two were remarkably compatible (although exact opposites) and were married in Wichita Falls on Aug.

30, 1947. Recently, they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. The two followed Wallace’s career with Texaco, ranging from Pampa to South Louisiana, finally retiring in Benbrook.

Throughout this journey, Nadaline remained the intellectual while raising her two children, Mark and Annette. She was an avid gardner and cook. She loved to travel an was a voracious reader (she often binged by reading five or more books in one day).

She was also a big-league, intensely competitive bridge player and an incredible cook of “healthy comfort food” (which she claimed relieved her of all clean-up responsibilities). A devout Christian, Nadaline was a member of Benbrook United Methodist Church, as well as being engaged in many multi-denominational bible studies throughout Fort Worth. She was an unflinching, “straight-ticket” voting Democrat and actively campaigned for many of our past Presidents and politicians.

She was a lover of all traditional hymns as well as depression-era radio. Her favorite song, “You Are My Sunshine,” was happily playing when she passed. But, most of all, Nadaline was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her life was lived with a confident, frenetic energy that was matched only by her fast and furious driving patterns, perpetually youthful beauty and her loving heart. Nadaline was preceded in death by her beloved parents; as well as her siblings, Oma Lee Davenport and Donald Beaty Davis; and all of her 10 Thomas brothers and sisters-in-law. Survivors: Deeply-beloved husband, Wallace Wayne Thomas; their two children, Mark Byron Thomas and April Annette Searcy (and Annette’s husband, Marshall); eight grandchildren, (Shawn (Tiffany), Kyle, Dustin, Alisa (Roque), Timofee, Marshall III (Courtney), Amy (Brian) and Merrill (James); 16 great-grandchildren, (Maddux, Gavin, Ethan, Cole, Thorin, Morgan, Grace, Jake, Isabella, Miriam, Clara, Clay, Lillian, Winter and Everett); brother-in-law, Allie Davenport, sister-in-law, Vivian Davis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and their children, including her beloved nephew, Al; her long time caregiver and beloved friend, Veronica, who was like a daughter to her, as well as Veronica’s dear daughters, Maria and Jessica, and her sister, Mariela, who also lovingly cared for her, all of whom she was blessed to call “her family”.

Nadaline was a rock and guiding light for her family and her friends. She lived every moment of a long and fruitful life. She will be deeply missed.
