Monica Ann Knapp, age 97, passed away on December 14, 2018 after a brief illness. She had been living in Parker, Colorado. She was born December 5, 1921 in Albany, New York to Joseph and Florence Marx.

Monica was the second oldest of seven children. Her husband of 62 years, Edward Knapp, passed away in 2007. She is survived by two children, Douglas Knapp of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Richard Knapp of Aurora, Colorado and their families including seven grandchildren.

After high school Mrs. Knapp served in the Navy, stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center during WWII. After the war, Edward and Monica married in 1946 and started their lives together in Ithaca, NY. She attended Harpur College and later earned a master’s degree from Smith College.

Their careers prompted several moves ultimately locating in Amherst, Massachusetts. Throughout these years she enjoyed a fulfilling teaching career at the elementary level. Many Amherst residents still have fond memories their third-grade teacher, Mrs. Knapp.

After an early retirement from teaching, Mrs. Knapp enjoyed several overseas adventures including two years in Malawi where her husband taught at the college level. Many retirement years were spent in Bradenton, Florida. She enjoyed extensive travel and being a docent at Ringling’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Mrs. Knapp’s final years were spent in Colorado where her son, Richard and family, reside. Mrs. Knapp will be greatly missed by friends and family. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Albany New York in the spring.
