Monte’s Obituary Monte V. Lecher, 89 of La Crescent, MN, and formerly of Stoddard, WI, died on Sunday, February 3, 2019 with his wife Hazel holding his hand. He was born in Wisconsin on July 4, 1929 to John and Beulah (Clements) Lecher. He is survived by his wife Hazel (Amundson) Lecher, daughter Monette Schleifer, son Mark Lecher, daughter Melany Gallas and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bernard Sr. and son Michael Lecher. Monte served in the Army and married Hazel on March 5, 1949. He worked factories, ran a restaurant, did carpentry and siding, but is mostly remembered for bartending at the Casino and later at other bars around La Crosse and Stoddard.

In his youth he was a proficient ballroom and roller rink dancer. As a matter of fact, he snagged Hazel at the Avalon ballroom. After marriage, he raced stock cars, took the family boat camping and water skiing, and enjoyed going to Country Jam and Country Fest with his wife and friends in campers the couple refurbished.

He was a Packer fan and loved watching sports and westerns. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Schumacher-kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel; 200 West Ave. So.

Pastor Harald Bringsjord will officiate. Burial will take place in the Stoddard City Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Monday morning at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of services.
