Morrie’s Obituary Mrs. Morrie Koerselman, 77, formerly of New Bern, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Born in Marion, Arkansas to a home with nine brothers and sisters, Morrie began a lifetime of love and teaching to children who surrounded her. She moved to Forth Worth, Texas where she married and was blessed with the birth of her son Dwayne.

She later moved to San Diego, California and met and fell in love with Richard L. Koerselman. She and Richard married and they were blessed with the birth of Darla. She was a true Naval wife who managed home and family surrounded by friends in San Diego, CA; Newport, RI; Great Lakes, IL; and Goose Creek, SC.

She and Richard were longtime residents of New Bern. Morrie loved cross-stitch, playing cards and children of any age. Her brother, George joined her family when he was fourteen and became another sibling to Dwayne and Darla.

There were many humorous conversations about three children with three last names in the household. She was a caregiver to children throughout her life. She was a surrogate mother to her friend’s son Greg Habib, while his parents were stationed away from Goose Creek.

She helped take care of her neighbors grandchildren while their parents worked. She made her home available to her niece Victoria Menendez, when she left El Salvador to live in the United States. There was never a child in need which she and Richard did not go out of their way to help.

Her loving spouse of 50 years, Richard preceded her in death in May 2016. Morrie is survived by her son, Donald Dwayne Lee, and wife Susan, of Chichester, NH; by her daughter, Darla K. Phillips, and husband William, of Durham, NC; her brother, George Mosier, and wife Kate, of Knoxville, TN. She will be missed by loving grandchildren, Derek and Carter Lee; Lauren, Taylor, and Cooper Phillips and nephew and niece Joshua and Ashley Mosier.

She leaves her brother, John Lee Mosier, and wife Shirley, of Monticello, AR; her sister, Haley Louise Gadberry of McRae, AR; her sister, Rose Marie Menendez, and spouse Carolos of Cabot, AR; and her sister Ann Vannoy, and husband Jim, of McRae, AR. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at East Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.
