Obituary for Mr Lyman K. Skory SKORY, Lyman K. “Lynn” Kalamazoo Lyman “Lynn” Skory, 91, passed away peacefully with family at his side at Rose Arbor Hospice on Monday, July 23, 2018. He was born April 28, 1927, in Lansing, MI, to the late Louis and Nabeha (Zayne) Skory. Lynn had a passion for life and enjoyed travelling the world, meeting new people, and trying local cuisines; but family, friends, and his loving wife of 65 years, Janet, is what he truly cherished more than anything.
He absolutely adored spending time with his children, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved having people join him and Janet in Florida during the winters to swim, play golf, and just relax. Lynn was an avid reader and could always be seen working on a crossword puzzle in his spare time.
After leaving the navy at the end of WWII, he had a very successful career of 35 years with Dow Chemical as a chemist, where he had the opportunity to transfer the family to The Netherlands for many exciting years. Upon retirement, he formed his own company and consulted for approximately 20 years. Lynn is survived by wife, Janet Skory; children, Mark (Shari) Skory, Greg Skory, Jeffrey (Jody) Skory, Michele (Edward) Tereshinski, Brian (Genevieve) Skory and Christopher (Paula) Skory; grandchildren, Nicole (Nick) Tacoma, Rachel (Eric) Buffman, Lindsey (Hunter) Maxwell, Megan (Morgan) Tschirhart, Reid (Melissa) Skory, Christopher (Kelly) Skory, Jon Tereshinski, Eric Tereshinski, Janelle Tereshinski, Tylor Skory, Gabriella Skory, Cole Skory, Eden Skory, Dana (Joshua) Bair, Kyle Klendworth, and Jesse Skory; 12 great grandchildren; sibling, Lorraine Rasak; sister-in-law, Beatrice Skory; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Jane Haddad, Mitchel Skory and Josephine Nakfoor; brothers-in-law, Edward Haddad, Art Nakfoor and Mitchell Rasak. Visitation will take place at St. Catherine of Siena, 1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, MI on Saturday, August 4th at 11:00 AM with a memorial service at noon. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave.
Interment and a private ceremony will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the American Cancer Society.
