Obituary for Ruth Elaine Sparks SPARKS (Kiel), Ruth E. Of Portage Ruth Elaine Sparks, age 77, went home to be with her Lord on July 19, 2018. Ruth was born August 6, 1940 in Portage, MI, the daughter of Arie and Alice (Hut) Kiel. She attended Portage Public Schools and following many years of employment, retired from Western Michigan University.

Ruth was a member of the Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed bowling but the most important part of her life was spending time with her family. On February 20, 1967 she was united in marriage to William L. Sparks, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1992.

She was also preceded by her parents and siblings Jessie, Berdine, Trena, Irene, Ann, John, Henry, Alfred and Donald. Surviving are brothers Arthur (Carol) Kiel, Robert (Carroll) Kiel; sisters Betty Hoorn, Dorothy (Larry) Barker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00PM Monday, July 23rd at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Street, where funeral service will begin at 1:00PM Monday with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating.
