OBITUARY Muriel Mayer October 28, 1928 – January 30, 2019 Muriel Mayer, 90, formerly of River Vale, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Beloved wife of Roy L. Mayer for 65 years. Devoted mother of Kevin Mayer and his wife, Lissa; Timothy Mayer and his wife, Doreen; and the late Cathleen Mayer.

Loving grandmother of Megan Stengel and her husband, Matthew; Cory Mayer and his wife, Samantha Tricoli; and Patrick Mayer. Cherished great-grandmother of Eamon, Mary Katherine, and Theresa Stengel. In addition to her daughter, she is predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Grace, and her siblings, Frank and Bernardine.

Muriel was a lifelong resident of Bergen County, having resided in Bogota and Hackensack, before settling in River Vale, where she and Roy raised their family and lived for 60 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph School (Class of 1942), Bogota High School (Class of 1946), Dominican College (BA), and Montclair State University (MA). She taught English at Pascack Valley High School from 1973 to 1997.

Muriel was an avid seamstress, making quilts and clothing for her family. She also loved to travel – she camped and explored the United States with her children and grandchildren and in her retirement toured the world via numerous cruises with her husband and dear friends. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ, on Sunday, February 3, from 1-5PM.

The Funeral Mass celebrating Muriel’s life and faith will be held at St. Andrew R.C. Church, Westwood, NJ, on Monday, February 4, at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Muriel’s name to The River Vale Volunteer Ambulance Corps or The Alzheimer’s Association.
