Obituary for Narva Nella Thompson Narva N. Thompson, Sr. was born October 2, 1951, the eldest child born to the late Anderson Thompson, Sr. and the late Bertha Brye Thompson. He was born in Pensacola, Florida and raised in Mobile, Alabama. Narva was educated in Mobile County Public Schools, graduating from Shaw High School.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Strayer University, and a Master of Arts in Business Management from Central Michigan University. After graduation from high school Narva enlisted in the United States Air Force where he accelerated in all aspects of his military career; he was trained as a medic and was a Histologist. He was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant and he retired in March 1989 after faithfully serving his country for 20 years, but retirement didn’t stop Narva, he entered into his next career full of zeal, determination and excitement.
On March 16, 1974, Narva was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Ernestine R. Thompson and they shared this journey called life together for 44 years. From this union three children were born; Kenyatta Tamara, Nakesha Narvetta, and Narva Nella. Narva’s careers included being the Director of Materials Management at Washington Center for the Aging, Histologist Technician Supervisor at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Virginia Hospital Center and a Histologist Technician at Holy Cross Hospital.
Narva was a devoted husband, great father and provider; truly a wonderful family man, one who cared deeply for others, a person who never met a stranger, one who did whatever he could to help others, but most of all he was a God-fearing man and was very passionate about his walk with God. Narva lived his life to the fullest enjoying every moment and every breath. He was an avid traveler and believed in taking his family on vacation every year, he was an avid runner, racquetball player, he enjoyed a good card game, grilling for his family and friends, listening to good music and dancing, attending sporting events, and watching old western movies.
Narva was an active committed member of Jerusalem African Methodist Church in Clinton, Maryland. He served faithfully on the Steward Board and was a Sunday School teacher. On May 11, 2018, Narva Nella Thompson went to his eternal home with our Heavenly Father with serenity and full agreement.
His memory and legacy are survived by his wife Ernestine R. Thompson; two daughters, Kenyatta T. Brunson (Willie) of Waldorf, MD and Nakesha N. Thompson of Waldorf, MD; one son, Narva N. Thompson II; one granddaughter, Ameiah F. Brunson; three brothers, Johnnie Whittiker of Washington, DC, Grady Thompson Sr. (Ramona) of Mobile, Alabama and Anderson Thompson III (Cynthia) of Houston, TX; two sisters, Shirley Emanuel of Mobile, Alabama and Eleatha Spencer (Carl) of Lawrenceville, GA; three aunts, one uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews; and many other loving relatives and caring friends. Friends received on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 10AM until time of Funeral Service at 11AM at New Hope AME Church, 12353 Washington Square, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. Interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
