Nathan W. Wingert, 82, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away December 1, 2018 at Menno Haven Nursing Home with his wife by his side. He was born on March 30, 1936 in Duffield , Pennsylvania to Alvah and Mary (Ott) Wingert. He graduated from CASHS in 1955.

He worked for Nitterhouse Concrete, Knouse Food, and helped Paul Lehman clear off the land for the Letterkenny Dam. He joined the Army in 1958 & started at Corning Glass Works in Aug. of 1960 and worked 39 years, retiring in 1999.

After retiring he worked part time for Amazon and later went to work for Meyers Bus Lines as a bus driver until health issues caused him to retire in 2008. He also volunteered for Menno Haven as a driver. He was a member of the Open Door Church and also volunteered there until 2008.

Nathan was an avid follower of the Braves. He also umpired for the Little Leagues for 35 years. He married Barbara Walter 54 years ago on June 27th, 1964.

They have two sons, Ryan Wingert and Brett (husband of Tammy) Wingert, both of Chambersburg, two grandchildren, Kayla (Wife of Nathan) Sorresso and Brandon (husband of Marissa) Wingert, two great grandsons, Caden Brenize and Bellamy Wingert, two great-granddaughters, Sophia Sorresso & Natalie Sorresso of Chambersburg. He is also survived by three siblings, Julia (wife of the late Abram) Hostetter, Ethel (wife of the late Carl) Myers, Bertha (wife of the late Donald) Thrush. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Erman And Frances Walter, sister-in-law Esther Moore, (wife of Paul), brother-in-law Mike Marpoe (husband of Bonnie), and brother in law, Paul Walter.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday Dec. 8th at 2:00 PM at the Open Door Church in Chambersburg with Rev. Mike Sanders officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Open Door Church.

Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave. , Chambersburg will be handling the arrangements.
