Obituary for Neil T. Van Uum Neil T. Van Uum, age 86, of Bratenahl, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Neil was born on September 4, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio. Neil was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and U.S. Army.

Neil was Past Commodore of the Al Koran Mariners Yacht Club; Past Chief of the Masons’ Krazy Kops Unit; Past President of the International Order of the Blue Gavel – District 7; Past Chaplain Emeritus of the Al Koran Shriners; and member of Rocky River Lodge #703 F&AM for 38 years. Neil strongly believed in the purpose of the Shriners Hospitals for Children and always felt he was a guardian angel for those children. Neil was an avid reader, boater and Browns’ fan and loved spending time with family and friends.

Devoted husband of 28 years to Susan Van Uum and the mother of his children, the late Jeanne Van Uum (nee Johnson); cherished father of Neil Van Uum Jr., Deborah Metzger, Cherie (Scott) Friedman, Margaret Ranalli, and Megan (Michael) Dixon; loving step father of David (Kathy) Assink, Michael (Mary Jo) Assink, and the late James (Bonnie) Assink; beloved grandfather of Shelby (Richard), Abigail (Kyle), Maria, Marina, James, Avery, Grant, Emilia, and Michael. Visitation will take place Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 12PM – 2PM in the Sunset Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 where funeral service will commence at 2PM. Private inurnment has previously taken place at Lakewood Cemetery.
