Nina (Spear) Genematas, 92, of Harrisburg, PA, and formerly of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Arden Courts of Susquehanna, Harrisburg, PA. Daughter of the late Peter and Angeline (Gianaris) Spear, she was born in Detroit, MI, on April 16, 1926. Throughout her life, Nina was always active in the Greek Orthodox Church.

She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program in Grosse Pointe, MI, and was also a member of the Friends of the Poor Organization. She… Read More » and her husband, William, loved to travel, and did so throughout their lives. She also gave her time to the Detroit Symphony Society and the Detroit Women’s Economic Club.

Family was always first in Nina’s life, but her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren grow and become the adults they are today. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mariann G. and Dr. Brett B. Ernst, of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, William Nicholas Genematas II (wife, Kate Lyn) of Jacksonville, FL, Sarah Andrene Genematas of Chicago, IL, Alexandra Marie Ernst (husband, Jeremy Zalben) of New York, NY, and Victoria Noel Ernst of Brooklyn, NY. Nina was preceded in death by her husband, William Nicholas Genematas, and their son, Nicholas William Genematas II.

A local visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018, from 4-6:30PM at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, PA; a prayer service will begin at 6:30PM. Additional visitations will be held in Michigan, with a 4-7PM visitation on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Ave. , Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230, and another the following morning, Saturday, October 6, from 9:30-10AM at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd.

, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080; a Greek Orthodox funeral ceremony will begin at 10AM at the church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 19975 Woodward Ave. , Detroit, MI 48203.
