Norma Irene Crawford, 95, passed peacefully Wednesday afternoon, June 6, 2018. She was born November 23, 1922 in Ephraim, Utah to Axel and Mathilda Seim Christiansen. She is survived by a daughter, Judy, and sons Robin (Kelly), Kevan (Joyce), and Timothy, as well as grandsons Justin (Amber) and Christopher (Andrena), and great grandsons Leif and Chase.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gibson Crawford, and her brothers Thomas, Ralph, and Boyd, as well as sisters Anna and Ruth. As a youth Norma enjoyed singing in the Provo High School choir and performing around Utah County. She married Paul November 25, 1942 in Evanston, WY, then briefly worked at Camp Pendleton when Paul went to Africa in the US Army.

Norma returned to Salt Lake to work as a telephone operator at Auerbach’s for the remainder of the war. After Paul returned from Europe they moved to Blythe, CA and started a family, then moved back to Salt Lake settling in Sugarhouse, then to the Millcreek area where they completed the family and raised four children. She volunteered many years in leadership positions in the Boy Scouts.

She took great joy in discovering her Norwegian genealogy. Her marriage to Paul was solemnized and the family sealed on April 22, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. Norma earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Utah Technical College and was subsequently licensed in Utah as a Practical Nurse.

She worked for Ralph Pendleton, MD, before becoming the office manager for Douglas Duncan, DDS. She retired in 1994. The last great adventure that Norma undertook was to travel to Mud Lake, ID in August 2017 to witness the total eclipse of the sun along the center line, something she had missed doing all her life.

Hence afterward in her capacity she referred to the eclipse as that “X-ray thing”. Norma wanted to thank the staff at Silverado Care Center for the kind and professional care she received to live the remainder of her days with dignity and comfort. As she grew older it pained her to realize everyone she knew had passed.

She loved to talk about the past. She was truly the last of her generation in her circles. Mom, we all love you dearly, and remind dad of the same.

Friends and family can visit Monday, June 11, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00am at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, followed by a brief funeral service. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on Thursday, June 14, at 11:00am.
