Norma Joan “Mama Jo” Wylie, 77, of Brazil, passed away at home, on Sunday, July 1, 2018 while surrounded by her family. Joan was born on January 6, 1941, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Claude William Selby and Opal Lee (Modesitt) Selby. She had attended Brazil High School and later earned her GED.

She was added to the Church of Christ on Pinkley Street on February 23, 2003. She also served as a foster parent for many years. Joan loved being mom and “Mama Jo” to her grandchildren.

She also enjoyed being at home sewing, cooking, decorating and had a passion for all children. On occasion Joan enjoyed traveling but was always ready to be back home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Claude and Opal Selby; sisters: Janice L. Selby, Marilyn D. Hinkle; daughter-in-law Janice M. (Akers) Wylie; a nephew Darren M. Lucas.

Joan is survived by her husband James O. Wylie; children: Pamela J. Floyd and husband Mark, Sherry L. Wilkinson and husband Jerry, and James J. “Rusty” Wylie; grandchildren: Jacob D. Higgins (Janice), Mark E. Higgins, James A. Higgins, Troy, J. Wilkinson, Aaron M. Wilkinson (Elizabeth), Autumn R. Moore (Travis), Nathan C. Akers, Blake J. and Renee M. Wylie, and Brock J. Wylie; great-grandchildren: Rhett S. P. Higgins, Carter J. Wilkinson, Violet E. L. Wilkinson, Johnny E. Cooprider, Gabe D. Cooprider, and Jamison D. Moore; a sister Delores C. “Corky” Strain as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 11-2pm.

Services will be at the funeral home, on Saturday, at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
