Norman H. Meyer, 88, Rockford, died in his home on April 21, 2018. He was born January 17, 1930, in Lorraine, KS, the son of Harvey and Delia (Mehl) Meyer. Norm received a MS in Architectural Engineering from the University of Illinois.

He married Anne Davis from Cherry Valley on August 20, 1955 in Rockford. Norm served in the Air Force stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was a Structural Engineer initially with Orput-Orput and Associates.

Norm had a great love of the land, including what he farmed in Rockford and the farm he grew up on in Kansas. He, with the help of his father, Harvey, built the family home where he lived until his death. He was a skilled craftsman, an all-purpose handyman, and a man of many talents and interests.

In his retirement, Norm and Anne were pleased to preserve two barns from their farm and see them moved to Midway Village in Rockford. He then spent many months in the restoration of those barns. Norm was a dedicated member of the Rockford downtown Kiwanis, as well as being an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere.

Norm was, above of all, a man of faith and a devoted family man. Norman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne; his children, Karl of Lorraine, KS, Carrie (Ernie) Carlson of Silver Springs, MD, Becky (Eric) Baeverstad of Rockford, and Eric of Rockford; his grandchildren, RaeAnne (James) Lindsey, Molly (Ben), and Sarah; his great grandsons, James and Karson; his sister, Dorothy (Rev. Wil) Ziekert; his brother, Warren (Sylvia) Meyer; his sister-in-law, Leslie Oswald.

He is predeceased by his parents, his son, Daniel, and his brother, Eugene. Memorial services will be at 11 A.M., Friday, May 18, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd. , Belvidere with Reverend Allan Buss officiating.

Burial in Cherry Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Friday. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.

Rockford. Memorials preferred to the church, the Rockford downtown Kiwanis, or Midway Village Museum, 6799 Guilford Rd. , Rockford.
