Oden Armacost “Kempie” Kemp of Hanover, formerly of Hampstead, MD passed away 1November 21, 2018 at Homewood at the age of 94. Born August 18, 1924 in Hampstead, MD. He was the son of the late Mamie Armacost Kemp and Ralph Kemp.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gail W. Kemp, daughters, Maureen Hesson (Barry) and Laurie Weaver (Fred) and granddaughters, Holly Myers and Heidi Staub. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Betty Slagle and Phyllis Burns and nieces and nephews and was predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister. In his youth he was a well-known softball player and a champion duck pin bowler.

Oden served as a Corporal for 4 years in the Marine Corp during WWII as a gunnery and rocket instructor for the Marine Air Corps. He retired after 32 years of service in the Railroad industry where he worked for the Western Maryland Railway, the B & O, both which were acquired by The Chessie System, where he became Treasurer for the Railway. He was a member of the Hampstead Town Council for 23 years and served 6 years as Mayor.

Upon his retirement as Mayor, the town named a park in his honor. He served as President of the Board of Directors for 4 years for the Carroll County Farm Museum and was a member of the Carroll County Economic Development Committee. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Homewood Benevolent Endowment Fund, 425 Westminster Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
