Daughter of Peter and Mary Balas (née Vislocky), immigrants from Litmanová, Slovakia, she grew up in a cold water flat in lower Manhattan with her older brothers, Peter and John. Nearby, Trinity Church, through its generosity to the local immigrant community, became a sanctuary and a center of gravity for her whole life.

Olga graduated from Washington Irving High School. She worked as a civilian for the US Army at its Brooklyn Army Base, and later for American Express at its headquarters on Broadway. She married Charles Joseph diPierro of Brooklyn, NY in 1962 at Trinity Church.

They started a family at their first home in Dyker Heights. By 1969, she had moved with her family to Westfield, NJ. There, she lovingly and tirelessly raised her three sons, often embarrassing them in front of their friends with her hilarious, spontaneous performances and colorful language.

She also shouldered the burden of care for her ailing mother until Mary’s death in 1989. When her children left for college, she spent several years as an Administrator at the Union County Medical Society in New Jersey. In 2003 she and Charles retired to a house they designed and built in Brielle, NJ to be near their grandchildren and the beaches she always enjoyed.

She pursued her passions for baking, knitting, reading, and word games. After her husband passed in 2013, she moved to Red Bank, NJ where she lived until her death. She will be dearly missed by her sons and their wives, Charles and Sara, Milan and Michelle, and Nicolas and Alyssa; her grandchildren, Alexa, Christopher, Charles, and Mary; and all who knew her.

Two memorial gatherings will be held. On March 9th, at 10:00 AM at Chapel of All Saints, Trinity Church Wall Street, 89 Broadway, New York, NY. And on March 10th, at 11:00 AM at the Atrium at Navesink Harbor, 40 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to these organizations as Olga did in life: Trinity Church Wall Street (www.
