Obituary for Oliver Roscoe Spears Print Roscoe Spears – Blountville, TN Oliver Roscoe Spears, 87, Blountville, TN passed away, Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Roscoe was born July 14, 1931in Friendsville, TN, a son of the late William Oliver and Susie (Dunlap) Spears. He was a veteran of the United States Army as a radio operator during the Korean War, a member of the First Baptist Church of Blountville, TN, also a member of Good Shepard Sunday School Class, D.A.V Chapter 39, and the Bristol Amateur Radio Club.
He was retired from Unisys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary E. Frye, Pauline Nelson, Mae Pinkston, Sarah Spears, and Nina French; and brothers, Charles and Riley Spears. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Marlene Gillenwater Spears, Blountville, TN; daughters, Patti Fry (Dave), Garden City, MI; Andrea Hyde (David), Bristol, TN; Laura Linder (Rick) Summerville, SC; and Pam Williams (Mike), Nashville, TN.
Grandchildren, Marley Watson (Matt), Erin Yates (Shayne), Anna Linder, Nicholas Bonacci, Mandy Dorton (Ben), and Delaney Williams; great grandchildren, Ellie Yates and Tucker Dorton; along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Clay Austin at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Blountville with visitation to follow at the church from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the church Men’s Quartet. Military graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the American Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at Holston View, Weber City, VA for the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church of Blountville Building Fund, P.O. Box 587, Blountville, TN 37617.
