Patrick Michael O’Neill, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 15th at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1941, Pat attended Central Catholic High School where he met his wife, of 56 years, Kathleen (Irmen) O’Neill, also in the class of 1959. He was inducted into the Central Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame, heralding his role as a guard on the undefeated 1959 Central basketball team, the “Fighting Irish”.

He attended Hillsdale College on a basketball scholarship. Pat’s career in home building and residential real estate spanned 40 years, beginning in Ohio and then later in Northern Virginia, where he was a broker and owned his own real estate company. In 2003 Pat retired and moved to Estero, Florida, where he and Kathleen found a wonderful community of friends and enjoyed sharing their Florida life with so many from all corners of the world.

Pat had a lifelong love of sports, especially Duke Blue Devil basketball which he shared with his daughter Molly, and competitive table tennis. It was through world-class table tennis, that he was able to travel to Asia, Europe and South America with his sons, cultivating a lifetime of friendships. He is survived by his devoted wife Kathleen, daughter Molly Kathleen O’Neill (Vicki Threlfall) sons, Sean Patrick O’Neill (Elizabeth Le), and Chartchai “Hank” Teekaveerakit (Nancy) who joined the family as a teenager becoming a second son.

Pat was never happier than when spending time with his cherished granddaughters, Tess O’Neill, and Kaitlyn O’Neill. He is also by a brother John P. O’Neill and many beloved nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by parents, Gertrude F. (Schweich) and Paul J. O’Neill, and older brother Burke P. O’Neill In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hope Hospice/Joanne’s House of Bonita Springs, or the Duke Cancer Institute, Lung Cancer Program are appreciated.

A Catholic funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Light Church, in Fort Myers at 11:00 am on Monday, May 20th, followed by a reception at Rookery Pointe Club House at 12:30 pm. A celebration of his life will be held in Durham, NC on June 29, 2019. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home.
