Obituary for Patti-Sue Porter Patti Sue Hearne Porter, aged 84, died peacefully on May 5th with her family at her side at the Kailua Hospice House after her long struggle with heart disease. She was born in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of Lucille and William P. Hearne. Patti was an active swimmer, life guard, sailor, golfer and bridge player who frequently won tournaments and races.
She attended the University of Pennsylvania where she met the love of her life, Donald C. Porter. They married and spent most of the 66 years of their marriage in Hawai’i, her husband Don’s home state. Patti used her blond hair and height to advantage acting in Kailua amateur theater, playing a gangster girlfriend, cigarette girl, and Stupefing Jones in Lil’ Abner.
Patti was an active volunteer teaching swimming to children with disabilities and hosting bible and prayer gatherings at her home as a member of the Kailua Church of The Nazarene. Patti also had an artistic streak, becoming a painter in mid-life. Her home was beautifully decorated with carefully selected artwork and curios.
Her tropical garden, orchids and fish pond were her pride and joy. At the young age of 53, Patti was diagnosed with heart disease. With her husband as her champion, she battled this disease successfully for over 30 years, spending quality time with family and friends as well as taking trips to her favorite parts of the world, like Italy, France, and Austria.
Patti did not let her health stand in the way of having a joyful time with family and friends. Patti was preceded in death on May 4th by her son, William S. Porter. Patti is survived by her brothers, William Hearne, of Salisbury, Maryland, and Stephen Hearne of Painter, Virginia; her loving husband, Donald C. Porter; her three daughters, Lisa Kleissner of Big Sur, Margaret Peebles of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Julia Tadich of Fresno, California; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
