OBITUARY Paul D. LUCAS January 24, 1943 – November 6, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Former longtime attorney and respected family man Paul D. Mark Lucas (’43) of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away today, November 6, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8th, at Aycock Funeral Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Friends may pay last respects at 3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral.

Officiating will Tim Pannell and the family of Mr. Lucas. Mr. Lucas was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on January 24th, 1943. He was a captain in the Navy, and served his country for six years.

He attended San Diego State University and received his Bachelor’s degree in ancient and European history, speech communications, politics and literature; he received his Master’s degree at San Diego State University in American colonial and federal history with a graduate scholarship in history and a job at the San Diego Historical Society Museum. As a college student, he was a two-time national debate champion. He went on to attend the University of Florida, receiving his Juris Doctorate degree, serving on the National Moot Court Board and being awarded the State Moot Court Champion in 1975.

Before retirement, he was employed by the legal firm Gary, Williams, Parenti, Watson & Gary for many years as an attorney. Paul was a kind and generous man who loved his family. He enjoyed reading, history and art, and attended Christ Lutheran Church.

Paul had more than 30 years of litigation and contract experience; he was a member of the Florida bar, District of Columbia bar association and Tennessee State Bar. His extensive education included being licensed in California as a community college instructor of law, English, history, and world political and cultural geography. Honors included receiving the State Supreme Court of Florida Pro Bono Award in 2004-2005 and the serving on the Million Dollar Advocate Forum.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Jean Lucas of Port St. Lucie; daughter Terry Pannell and son Tim Pannell (proceeded by son Tony Pannell); seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
