Paul was born on February 13, 1930 to Leslie and Jessie (Hanks) Tyler in Clarks, Nebraska. He grew up in the Clarks and Central City area. He attended District #22 and then graduated from Central City High School in 1947.

Paul farmed his entire life on Prairie Island except for the 2 years he was in the United States Marine Corps. He served one year in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. He married Jean Persons on February 13, 1949.

Paul was forced to quit farming in 1993 due to health reasons. He was living in Archer at the time of his death. Those left to cherish his memory are two sons- Tim and Mary Tyler of Cable, OH; Todd and Kim Tyler; one daughter- Cindy Brenning; one brother- Joe and Donna Tyler of Phoenix, AZ; 6 granddaughters and 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a very dear friend- Mel Thomson who has shared some of the best years of my life.
