Obituary for Paul Moran Geist Print Paul Moran Geist Sr., 83, of East Pointe, passed away at his residence on February 24th, 2019. Born on October 7th, 1935 in Grosse Pointe Farms, he was the son of the late Hazel and Phillip Geist. Paul attended, and graduated High School from St. Paul in 1952.

He served his country in the Korean War from 1955 -1957 as a Specialist Third Class in the United States Army, and continued his Service in the Reserves through 1963. Paul returned to civilian life with an honorary discharge and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He married the love of his life – Mary Lou Louwers, and they have been together ever since and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 24th, 2019.

Paul worked as a Foreman / Landscaper for Greater Detroit Landscaping, retired as a Security Guard from Chrysler, and decided to continue working part-time at Allemon’s Garden Center. Throughout his life he has always made a positive impression in his unmatched catering of people, both employees and customers alike, whether it was selling Christmas Trees, plowing the neighbor’s driveways, or just sharing a story or a beer with friends. Paul was always a strong believer in God and shared his faith with and in the congregations of St. Paul’s, St. Peter’s, St. Clare, and St. Joan of Arc Catholic churches.

Paul is survived by his six children: Thomas Edward Geist (Debbie), Jeanne Marie Harms (Kirk), Daniel Robert Geist (Kim), Margaret Mary / Margie Threm (Rick), Lorraine Moran / Lorrie Haiar (Brad), and Paul Moran Geist Jr., (Marissa). Paul & Mary Lou also had seven foster children, and have nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Paul is survived by his younger sister Christine Kreuter (Norb), who was his biggest fan to the very end and whom he dearly loved.

He was predeceased and now joining his older brothers Tom and Louie in heaven. Paul will always be remembered for his dedicated work ethic, his relentless support of his family, and his overall determination to giving his children the chance to succeed. He loved being involved in, and following his children’s (and Grandchildren’s) activities and sports.

He absolutely loved gardening, fishing, and relaxing at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula, ” The Geist Getaway “, with his friends and family. Funeral Visitation for Paul will be held on Thursday February 28, 2019 between the hours of 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Verheyden Funeral Home 16300 Mack Avenue Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230 The funeral mass will be held on Friday March 1, 2019 at St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church (1401 Whittier Rd, Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230).

There will be a brief half hour visitation & viewing starting at 10:00 AM at the church, with the mass directly following at 10:30 AM, with Father Andrew Kowalczyk presiding.
