Pauline Maria Long Suits November 09, 1927 – February 16, 2019 Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Pauline Marie Long Suits Inspiring role model and true Proverbs 31 Woman of Faith Pauline Marie Long Suits, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born in Sulphur Springs, AR on November 9, 1927 to Cody Hobson and Lucy Pauline (Hoog) Long. She married James Wallace Suits in Sulphur Springs on August 28, 1947.
They lived in Goodman MO, and then they moved to Datil, NM in 1954 and to Tularosa, NM in 1957. Pauline is survived by her sister, Sara Jane and her three children, Jerry Paul, James Cody and Lucinda Kay, and their spouses. Pauline loved her seven grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews brought her so much joy.
She is preceded in death by her husband James, both parents, and two brothers Robert Long and Kenneth Long. Pauline was a fun loving, self-sacrificing and reful person who raised her children to be independent and caring. She worked as the office manager for two utility companies in Tularosa until her husband retired from teaching in 1973.
After that, they had a home daycare for pre-school children who affectionately called them “Mom Pauline” and “Pop”. She invested in these children and cherished keeping in contact with them as adults via Facebook, Instagram and phone calls. As a 4H leader, Pauline taught many to sew.
During their later years Pauline and James loved to travel to places near and far away—Alaska, Hawaii, and Nashville. After James died in 1982, Pauline worked in the civil service at White Sands Missile Range until 1993. Pauline traveled regularly to see her grandchildren who lived out of state.
After retirement Pauline took care of two of her grandsons, Paul and Adam, when they were in preschool. Pauline dearly loved her grandchildren and was so proud of them all. In 2001 she moved from El Paso, TX to Colorado Springs with her daughter’s family.
Pauline and Sara Jane, her sister, enjoyed traveling the world together and returning to Sulphur Springs for family and school reunions. In Colorado Springs, she lived at The Belcaro Senior apartment complex where she enjoyed her time with dear friends, playing card games, celebrating birthdays, and traveling on tours across the USA. She was an inspiration to all that knew her and will be truly missed.
She loved Jesus. We look forward to reuniting with her in Heaven. A memorial service is scheduled at The Belcaro, 3475 American Dr. Colorado Springs, CO 80917 on Thursday, February 21 from 10am to 11 am.
Rev. Edgar McElhannon will officiate the ceremony. His wife, Ruth, plans to play the piano and share some of Pauline’s favorite hymns.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, February 23, at 10:00am at the Tularosa New Mexico United Methodist Church (107 Granado Street) followed by an 11:30am grave side service at Monte Vista Cemetery (590 1st Street in Alamogordo, NM). Rev. Dustin Wilhite will officiate at the ceremony.
Pallbearers include her grandsons Cody, Jesse, Jamie, Paul, Adam and surrogate grandson, Kenny Roy. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Pauline’s life at a reception at the Hampton Hotel in Alamogordo following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tularosa United Methodist Church “Pauline Suits Memorial Fund” at 107 Granado St, Tularosa NM 88352.
