OBITUARY Pedro Dela Rosa April 19, 1940 – December 11, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Pedro Aguilar De La Rosa, died on December 11, 2018 at The Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palm Bay, Florida. Pedro was a widower and was married for 30 years to his late wife, Rosario Lopez De Le Rosa. For those who knew him, he was Kuya or Brother Peter, and for all his nieces and nephews he was our beloved “Tiyo or Uncle Peter”.
Pedro was born in Panganiban, Catanduanes on April 19,1940. He was a graduate of Catanduanes Agricultural and Industrial School. He worked for Barnabas Hospital in New Jersey as a Maintenance Supervisor until he retired in 2000.
He then moved to Palm Bay, Florida with the rest of his family members. Pedro, (Kuya/Uncle Peter), wasn’t some significant figure that you’ll ever hear about in history books or find on Google, but he was a real life Elf. Maybe not Santa’s Elf, but his family’s living Elf.
By the Bible as a reference, his nephew found some interesting similarities between Tiyo Peter and Jesus’ first disciple Simon Peter. As most Christians know from the Bible, Jesus changed Simons name to Peter, which means “Rock”. The disciple Peter was a fisherman of the 1st century, and back then fisherman were gruff, full of vigor and fearless with boisterous tempers.
In comparison, Pedro’s family would have say that Tiyo Peter’s build was a rock, but more in the form of a boulder, with smooth surfaces. His voice was gruff, which some people had a hard time getting used to. He enjoyed fishing, had a boisterous temper and was fearless in his youth.
Tiyo Peter cut an imposing figure at 5’10” and weighing 330lbs. , but don’t let that fool you. On the inside he was a big softie.
He had one of the biggest hearts his family has ever known. He belonged to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and member of the Phil-Am Block Rosary Group in Palm Bay. Pedro had a strong personality and he was always ready to help others in need.
He loved to do gardening and around the house projects. He is survived by his remaining siblings, Gloria De La Rosa, Joseph De La Rosa, Frank De La Rosa & Dionisia De La Rosa Ogena.
