Perry’s Obituary Perry Russell Walls departed this life on December 17, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia. Perry, a Harlan, KY native, was born on September 2, 1937 to Milton and Nell Rose Walls. He was a graduate of Harlan High School in 1957.
He married Barbara Howard Walls on September 6, 1957 and they were blessed with 4 children. Perry was a 1961 graduate of Morehead State University, earned his Master’s Degree 1963 and completed continuing education at University of Kentucky and Ohio State. He began his career teaching at Dawson Bryan High School in Ohio, moving on to Kentucky as Region Five Vocational Coordinator and in 1975 was hired to serve as principal during the construction of the LCJVS (now known as Collins Career Technical Center).
He served at the Collins Career Center until his retirement in 2002 beginning as principal and ending as superintendent. In addition to his dedication to education, Perry was an avid golfer, artist and craftsman. Perry also served his community through his 26 years of work in the Lions Club and in 2015 was awarded the highest honor of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
However, his greatest joy came from being alongside his children and grandchildren as their biggest supporter in all their extracurricular activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Howard Walls, Pikeville, KY. He is survived by his wife Barbara H Walls, sons Jeff, Hurricane, WV and Scott (Angel) Mount Juliet, TN; daughters, Tammy and Sharri (Alan) Butcher, Chesapeake, OH; six grandchildren, Garrett Butcher, Nick Duffield, Corey Walls, Zoe Walls, Kalie (Jacob) Johnson, Breanna Walls and one great granddaughter, Renly Johnson; sister Phyllis (Jeff) Edwards and brother Bill (Jennie) Walls Lexington, KY; sister-in-law, Pat Walls, Pikeville, KY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also a very special brother and sister in law, Dean and Barbara Earnest, Morristown, TN with whom they shared a double wedding. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21, at 12:00 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home and Crematory 625 County Road 775, Proctorville, OH 45669. The services will be officiated by Perry’s nephew Gordon Walls.
Family and friends may call beginning at 11:00 a.m. one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702.
