Peter C. Natriello formerly of Second Street, Gloversville, and a current resident of The Wells House in Johnstown, NY, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 23, 2019. He was 100 years old. Born on October 22, 1918, in Gloversville, he was a lifelong resident of Gloversville and had several businesses in the city over the years.

He managed the American Italian Grocery Store and also owned and operated Peter’s Outlet, a used furniture outlet for many years. Mr. Natriello also worked for many years at General Electric. Mr. Natriello proudly served in the United States Army during WW II.

He married his wife Esmeralda Maryanopolis on May 16, 1943. She passed away on October 14, 2007. Peter was a member of the Concordia Club and the Forester’s Club, both in Gloversville for many years.

His interest in life consisted of fishing, reading books, smoking his pipe, gardening, playing cards and cooking. In his leisure he enjoyed playing the banjo and guitar and played in many local bands in various establishments in the city of Gloversville. Peter was also an avid Yankees and New York Giants fan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Esmeralda; a brother, Ralph DeCristofaro; sisters, Susan Laporta, Mary Caruso, Anna Pierce, and Lucy Snyder; his son-in-law, Paul Meher Sr.; his brothers-in-law, Daniel and John Maryanopolis; and sister-in-law, Mary Cerrato. Survivors include his daughter, Candy (Jennie) Meher of Gloversville, NY; grandchildren, Kelly Hilts and her husband Danny of Gloversville, NY, and Paul Meher Jr. and his girlfriend Ginger of Gloversville, NY; great-grandchildren, Michael Szurek Jr. (Erica), Misty Lynn Hilts (Kris), DJ Hilts (Kaitlyn), Gus Hilts (Gabby), Phil Meher, Emily Meher and Gabe Meher; great-great-grandchildren, Logan Putman, Jenna Szurek, and Kendra Szurek; sister-in-law, Caroline Maryanopolis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078 at 10 a.m. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgass Funeral Home, 111 County Road 106, Johnstown, NY 12095 on Wednesday.

Burial will be with his wife at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at St.jude.org. Funeral services are entrusted to the Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave.
