Peter Michael Rhein, age 83, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed Sunday, May 5, 2019. Peter was born and raised in the Detroit area and is preceded in death by parents Lloyd and Eva Rhein, as well as two siblings, Robert Rhein and Mary Rhein Oldberg. Pete graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in electrical engineering.

Soon after graduating, he began a long career as avionics engineer with Lear in 1959. Always a gadget man, Pete enjoyed working on his computer, trying out new apps on his smartphone, and staying current with technologies. Pete is survived by his wife of sixty years, Marian Day Rhein, sons David Rhein, Mark (Linda) Rhein, Christopher (Gerri) Rhein, and daughter Carrie Rhein.

Pete is also survived by four granddaughters, Stacey Blodgett Martin, Amy Rhein, Karen Rhein Belknap, and Colleen Rhein along with one grandson, Eric Rhein. Those who were fortunate to know Pete, a quiet and introspective man, admired his intelligence, strong work ethic, and tenacity. He will be remembered well and forever loved.

In place of a memorial service, a small gathering is planned with immediate family members. Cremation has taken place as he requested. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to a charity of your choosing in Pete’s name.
