Obituary for Phillip Charles Rathbun Mr. Phillip Charles Rathbun, age 79, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Muskegon, two days before his 80th birthday. He was born in Muskegon on April 13, 1938 to William and Ida (Erbes) Rathbun. Phil was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He taught at Reeths-Puffer Public Schools for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1997. He also spent many years serving as a football spotter in Reeths-Puffer’s Press Box and served as the Reeths-Puffer basketball statistician for 49 years, retiring just last year. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing pool.

Phil was a member of Community United Methodist Church. On June 15, 1968, Phil married the former Patricia E. Kennedy and she preceded him in death in 2013. He is survived by his son, Jim (Lorrie) Rathbun; two grandchildren, Rachel and Michael; and two brothers, Norman (Judith) Rathbun and Donald “Bill” (Barbara) Rathbun.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; and grandson, David. SERVICES will be 11:00AM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Community United Methodist Church (1614 Ruddiman Dr., North Muskegon) with Rev. Jeremy Williams officiating.

VISITATION will be from 5-7 PM Monday, April 16, 2018 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave. , 231-726-5210. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery.
