Preston Wayne’s Obituary Preston Wayne Barnes, 76, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Wayne was a loving husband and father and brought joy to many people via his singing and storytelling. He was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on July 26, 1942, to the late Claude and Emma Hager Barnes.

He was a 1960 graduate of Holy Name High School. Wayne worked at Delker Brothers Furniture from 1959 to 1973 and then worked at Alles Brothers Furniture until he retired in 2004. On September 1, 1963, he married Brenda Faye Strouse.

They raised two sons, Robert Edward Barnes and Barry Fielding Barnes. Wayne had a passion for music and loved singing and playing the guitar. He was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

He was apt to sing to anyone at anytime when he felt they needed some cheer in their day. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Emma Barnes; two brothers, Kenneth Barnes and Bill Barnes. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Brenda; two sons, Robert Barnes and his wife, Yuko Takahashi, of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Barry Barnes and his partner, Joan Slaughter, of Henderson, Kentucky; one grandson, Kenneth Edward Barnes; two sisters, Juanita Robertson and Judy Slaughter, both of Henderson, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Father Larry McBride will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and until service time Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be John Caldwell, Bryan Blake, Richard Slaughter, Bill Whitmore, Michael Majors, and Mark Sheets. Contributions may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School Athletic Department.
