OBITUARY Rachel Ann Schwitzer July 7, 1933 – September 24, 2018 Rachel Ann Carpenter Anderson Schwitzer. I quietly passed away at my son and daughter-in-law’s home in Sun City, Arizona on 24 September 2018, at 85 years of age. I was born on 7 July 1933, to Lynn Winfield Carpenter and Rachel Ann Brimhall, in Provo, Utah.
I moved to Ogden in 1941, where I eventually met and married my husband, Vernal Schwitzer, in 1954. I had 58 great years with this gentle giant. I worked at Woolworths in downtown Ogden for many years until I went to work at Kmart soon after it opened.
I retired from Kmart many years ago, and enjoyed a lazy retirement with my husband. Vern and I loved bowling, shooting pool, horse shoes, cards, and traveling to Wendover to gamble. In our younger years, Vern and I enjoyed going to the Kokomo Club in Ogden to dance, drink, and visit with great friends.
Later in life we loved hanging out with friends at Peg’s Lew Monico in Roy, and loved listening to Lew’s (Darrell’s) continued battle with the city of Roy. Breakfast and lunch at Beez Café in Roy were also special times for us. We loved our neighborhood in West Haven (Kanesville), Utah and enjoyed having a beer or two with our friends and families there.
I sure do miss that time in my life when we were all alive and healthy enough to enjoy our times together. I am leaving behind family and friends that I have truly loved, but I am joining others. Those that I have loved, that have passed before me, include my wonderful husband, my tiny daughter Mykett Delynn, my parents, grandparents, a son-in-law, granddaughter, and a great granddaughter.
I leave behind my half-brother Glen Atwood, three half-sisters Linda, Sandie, and Barbara, my daughter Donna Lynn Atwood Salerno, my son Richard Atwood (Carol Harrington), grandchildren Rikkie Coley and Brian Nicholls (Jason Myers), great grandchildren Kennedy Coley, Kathryn Traven, Jay Traven Jr, Roger McCamey, and my newest great granddaughter, Sydney Diana Myers-Nicholls. I enjoyed my life with few regrets. I never thought I would live this long, or I might just have taken better care of myself (not).
It gets kind of lonely when you outlive your spouse and friends. Being alone and in poor health makes your quality of life poor to very poor to suffrage. We need more Dr. Kevorkian’s, or at least more states to pass “Death with Dignity” laws.
I want to thank all those that helped and cared for me including Sante Hospice in Arizona, and the support they gave to my son and daughter-in-law. At my request there will be no viewing and no services. Most of my ashes will be tossed to the winds, some, to where I can fly high with the fighter pilots from Hill AFB, and some, to where I can ride the ocean currents to parts I have never visited.
Some will rest next to my husband. WOW … what a great trip I have had.
