Obituary for Rachel Catherine Marinovich Rachel Catherine Marinovich, born early morning on a snowy New Year’s day in 1964 ended her life under an oak tree overlooking the Mississippi River on the clear, beautiful morning of October 15, 2018. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Emma Owens Furey; her paternal grandparents, Anthony L. Marinovich and Rosie F. Marinovich. She is the beloved daughter of Anthony John “Tony” Marinovich and Mena Lunemann Marinovich.

She is the cherished sister of Byron Thomas Marinovich (Kelli), and Pamela Therese Marinovich Travis (Michael). She is the devoted aunt of Laurén Marinovich Cimino (Vince), Anthony John Short, Sarah Nicolene Short, and Amanda Catherine Short. She is the niece of Marie Marinovich Croft, and Janet Lunemann Schouest (Dudley).

She is also survived by numerous friends (Michelle, Trey, Toby, Matt, Victoria, Emily, Eric, Alexa, Jacques, Randy, Jim) and family. Rachel was reared in Buras, Louisiana where life was simple and went on to Baton Rouge out of high school where she was a member of Louisiana State University’s Golden Band from Tigerland and Phi Mu Sorority. She was purple and gold through and through, a graduate of LSU and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center earning her juris doctorate.

After graduation, she began work with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office until beginning her eventual career in family law. For years she was known as a shark, aggressively representing her clients. She loved her fur babies, Diva (who recently passed away at 18+ years), JoJo, and Deuce (named for the Saints player because of his black and gold coat).

And then there were her Twitter @whodatdogs, Jersey and Sasha, who will grieve for their momma more than anyone. They were her “girls” and loved to walk with Rachel on Magazine Street, at the dog park, and to any and all festivals in the city. They have many followers that made her momma proud, including American Idol, Sharon Osbourne, and Arthel Nevell.

They will continue her account for her. Special thanks to the many people who assisted us on her final day: Magazine Street Animal Clinic, Dat Dogs, Audubon Zoo, NOPD, Darryl Breaux, among others.
