Obituary for Rachel Tucker Neal Rachel Marie Tucker Neal, 83, of Charlotte, NC, and formerly of Chesterfield County, SC, died Thursday, December 13, 2018. Through the blessing of hospice, she was able to transition at home with family by her side. Rachel was born in Chesterfield County, SC, on February 9, 1935, the daughter of Benjamin and Maude Smith Tucker.
After graduating from high school, she took all of her worldly possessions, which mostly entailed her clothing, and came to Charlotte to make her own way in life Rachel went to work for Southern Bell as a telephone operator and worked her way up through the ranks to also handle repairs and customer service. After 43 years of faithful service, she retired at 59 years old. She was a member of the Pioneers Club and she enjoyed travelling with her retirement group, seeing many places around the world.
Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Rachel is survived by two children: John (wife Gina) Neal and Angela (husband Chris) Lizarazo, all of Matthews, NC; four grandchildren: Seth Franklin, Amanda Marie, Courtney Blair and Christopher John; and three great grandchildren: Madeline, Lochlain and John Robert. Rachel is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband, Frank Griffin Neal, whom she married in York, SC. Services honoring the life, love and blessing of Rachel will be held Monday, December 17, 2018, at her home church of Mt Croghan Baptist Church in Mt Croghan, SC. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 1 pm.
At 2 pm, Reverend David Roscoe will lead the funeral service. Following the service, Rachel will be taken in procession to Mt Croghan Memorial Park where she will be laid to her final place of earthly rest with her family. Rachel’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them.
