OBITUARY Raquel Herrera Martinez September 6, 1934 – July 26, 2018 Raquel “Rachel” Martinez was born September 6, 1934 to Concepcion and Aurelia Herrera in Magnolia, Texas. She was married at the age of 15 to the love of her life, Feliciano Martinez, on November 20, 1949, in a small church wedding in Magnolia, Texas. They were married for 64 years and 10 months when the Lord called him home, September 2014.

During their marriage they had five children: three sons, Ruben Martinez, who preceded her in death, Ray Anthony Martinez, and Enrique Martinez; and two daughters, Maria Elena Vargas, and Frances Martinez Beavert. They moved to Houston in 1959 and remained there for the remainder of their life together. She was a stay at home mom, but was always willing to help those less fortunate.

Her life in Magnolia as a young girl was involved with the church as a Sunday school teacher, as well as director for the young children’s programs such as Christmas, Easter, and Mother’s Day, among others. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and collecting recipes. Come the holidays, everyone was sure to be at her home for the never ending food and goodies.

Her children and her husband were her life. She was called home on July 26, 2018 while living in North Richland Hills with her eldest daughter and son in law. She will be missed dearly by her family, including her 10 grandchildren and her 15 great grandchildren, as well as everyone whose life she had touched.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel North (5100 North Freeway, Houston TX 77022) on Thursday, August 2nd 2018 from 5 PM to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 3rd 2018, also at Funeraria del Angel North, at 9 AM. Mrs. Martinez’s Committal Ceremony will be held at Brookside Cemetery (13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039) at 10 AM and will be followed by a gathering at Brookside Funeral Home.

This is not a goodbye, but a celebration of her life.
