Ray G. Mathews, 87, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 10, 2019 at his home. He was born on May 26, 1931, in Tiffin, Ohio to Dorsey and Regina (Miller) Mathews. On October 18, 1974, he married Virginia (Hunt) Elchert and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2015.

Survivors include his sons, Bill (Deb) Elchert and John (Michelle) Elchert, both of Tiffin; daughters, Bonnie (Louie) Aiello and Roberta Elchert, both of Tiffin; three sisters, Mary Ann, Alice and Susan; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great, great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beverly Baker; brothers, Lloyd and Richard; sisters, Beverly and Norma; one granddaughter, one grandson, one great grandson; and one great, great grandson. Ray graduated in 1949 from Tiffin Columbian High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

He was a truck driver and was a member of the Ohio State Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #402 where he served as past president, vice president and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010. He also served as a board member and volunteered at S.C.A.T. Friends may visit with the family from 2-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

There will be no service or burial at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to S.C.A.T. or to Bridge Hospice Care.
