Raymond L. Elder, 86, of Mancelona, passed away on December 21, 2018 at his daughter’s home. Ray was born on February 24, 1932, in Deford, MI, the son of Douglas and Olive (Churchill) Elder. Ray was a longtime resident of Mancelona where he was employed at Gulf and Western.

He was a member of the Mancelona Free Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and animals. He is survived by 3 children, Roger (Renee) Elder, Rodney Elder and Barbara Elder all of Mancelona. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Rachel, Steven, Amber, Hannah, Abigail, Jacob, 4 great-grandchildren, Michael, Thea, Silas, Sophia, a brother Lewis (Janet) Collins of Detroit, sister, Mabel (Sy) Budzinski of Fla, sister-in-law Betty Collins as well as his girlfriend Kaye Welch.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Elder, a brother Forest Elder, 2 brothers, Richard and Robert Collins, a sister Marlene Blacker as well as his parents. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, December 30 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Free Methodist Church with Pastor Chip Wibert officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at church.

Interment will take place in the spring of 2019 in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Free Methodist Church, 10725 Darragh Rd. , Mancelona, MI, 49659.
