Raymond ‘Scooter’ Cox, of ‘The Hill’ Dawsonville, GA, departed this life Monday, September 3, 2018. He is survived by wife Amy Sperry Cox, sisters Virginia (‘Molie’) Wheeler (Clinton) of Norcross, GA, Faye Caldwell of Duluth, GA, sons Darrell Cox (Tanya), Rodney Cox (Danielle) and daughter Ottum Barcus (Brian) all of Dawsonville, GA. Grandchildren Sydney Cox, Riley Cox, Brandon Bell, Jacob Bell, Silas Cox, Brayden Cox, Peyton Pruett, and Ivey Barcus.

Nieces Alicia Kemptner (Mark), Leah Humphrey (Michael) both of Cumming, Leslie Brouillette (Chris) of Dawsonville, nephew Wade Youmans; as well as all the Sperry clan spread from Florida to Alaska and points in between. Raymond Eugene ‘Scooter’ Cox was born May 1, 1949 along with twin sister Ethel Faye Cox to loving parents Alman and Marie Cox and older sister Virginia, who was 8 at the time. Scooter, his nickname since he was a baby as would ‘scoot’ across the floor, had a lifelong love of the outdoors.

He lived and worked on Lake Lanier for a time, shared his affinity for fishing with family and friends, and shared the bounty of his catch with numerous fish frys and gatherings. He shared the fruits of his many hunting expeditions with those close to him as well. An avid outdoorsman – he was at home in the woods or on the water – in his element.

He also had a passion for gardening, which he acquired from his father, Alman Cox. With his childhood friend, Johnny Watson, he journeyed on many sailing expeditions to the Bahamas, Dry Tortugas, the Keys and Key West. Together, they rode out Hurricane Sandy in the Bahamas and shared their experience with others.

He shared his love of the water and sailing the ocean to far off places with Johnny and made a friend in every locale they visited. A lover of animals, he had the love of many dogs, horses and a mule named Emma. He ventured on hundreds of trail rides and journeys – including riding oceanside on the sand at Myrtle Beach in 2003.

A jack of all trades and a master at most of them – he worked with wood, metal and was a master electrician. Scooter never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone he met, and was glad to help those in need. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marie and Alman Cox, and brother-in-law Louis Caldwell.
