Obituary for Regina “Jean” Reynolds (Kempton) Dateline – Kennebunk Regina “Jean” Kempton Reynolds, 88, of Kennebunk, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation. She was born in Waltham, MA on December 19, 1929, a daughter of John and Katherine (Bergen) Kempton. She grew up in Newton, MA, and graduated from La Salle College.

Jean is the loving and devoted wife of Captain Stanley Cobb Reynolds, USCG (retired). They were married on June 24, 1951 at St. Bernards Church in West Newton, MA, sharing an amazing 67 years of marriage, and raising a family of twelve children. As a military family, Jean and Stan lived in several locations over the years.

They first lived in Portland, ME, as his ship worked out of South Portland. They then moved to Woodford’s Corner. Upon the birth of their first child, Stanley Scott Reynolds, the family established their residence in Sequin Light on Sequin Island.

They eventually bought a house in Duxbury, MA, where 8 of their 12 children were born. Summers were spent in Boothbay Harbor. Upon Stan’s retirement, with the children up and gone, they relocated to St. Augustine, FL.

, where they ran a bed and breakfast for 2 years. Jean enjoyed music and ballroom dancing; she and Stan were extraordinary dancers and could be found cutting a rug on most Friday nights. Jean was a devout Catholic and a member of Opus Dei.

She was a member of St. Martha’s Parish, and enjoyed attending Mass in both Kennebunk and Wells. She was also a CCD instructor. In addition to her parents of Newton, MA, Jean is predeceased by a son, Stanley Scott; a daughter, Marga Maria Reynolds; her sister, Ruth; her brother, Jack; and a son-in-law, Jay Reynolds.

Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Stanley Cobb Reynolds of Kennebunk; four sons, Michael Kempton Reynolds and wife Laura of MA, Lawrence David Reynolds of ME, Matthew William Reynolds of ME, Sean Edward Reynolds of CO; six daughters, Pamela Kay Reynolds of GA, Linda Jean Reynolds of MA, Lorna Christine Rose of NH, Kathleen Louise Olson and husband Paul of NH, Kerri Elizabeth Cotter of MA, Colleen Eleanor Reynolds of ME; twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk.
